Straight Pool
Rule reference for this discipline.
Straight Pool (14.1 continuous) is a point game. Any object ball can be called and pocketed for one point.
Objective and legal balls
Players score one point per legally called pocketed ball. The match is won by reaching a preset target score (for example 50, 75, or 100).
Opening and re-racking
After 14 balls are pocketed, those 14 are re-racked while one ball remains as the break ball for the next pattern. The game continues in a single long run format.
Turn sequence
Your inning continues while you keep pocketing called balls legally. A miss or foul ends your run and passes the table.
Fouls and scoring impact
Fouls are not only positional mistakes; they also reduce your score.
- Standard foul: minus 1 point.
- Scratch or cue ball off the table: minus points plus incoming advantage under event rules.
- Three consecutive fouls can trigger an additional penalty in formal rulesets.
Winning the game
The first player to the target score wins. In long races, cue-ball control and safety quality are often more decisive than single-shot difficulty.
House-rule note
Casual rooms often simplify re-rack or call-shot details. For rated play, use one consistent 14.1 ruleset.
